cartXtra and cmsXtra no longer under development

We're still here for you, BUT.........

We have been building and supporting sites based on our own cmsXtra content management system and cartXtra e-commerce platform for 18 years now, but things move on. It is no longer viable for us to continue to develop these systems and in fact the last new site actually built with this technology was launched 6 years ago, in 2018.

Changing client requirements and significant improvements in available alternatives, particularly with the advent of quality Page Builders for WordPress have meant that we have been building sites exclusively with WordPress for 6 years now whilst still fully supporting cmsXtra and cartXtra for existing clients.

As from today we will not be continuing to develop cmsXtra and cartXtra in any way, and we would encourage any client with a site with us built before March 2018 on these old platforms to ask us a quote to build a new WordPress or WooCommerce based website.

These new platforms are Open Source and portable which means better long term peace of mind for clients.

What does this mean for me?

Possibly nothing, at least in the short to medium term. But we cannot be certain of that or offer any guarantees.

We will aim to continue to provide hosting including our cmsXtra and cartXtra software itself at the current version number. We will continue to support you including any site updates (assuming still possible) and creation and management of daily backups retained for 30 days of both the site files and database.

Our servers will continue to be maintained up to date with security patches, but over time there is an increased risk with security issues as well as compatibility with future versions of server related software.

It is entirely possible that your site may still be up and running without issues into the next decade, but it is also possible that an issue may crop up at any time with little or no notice (most likely security or compatibility related).

The bottom line is that functionality or security issues may possibly render your site unusable at some point or force us to take it down. We are not ourselves imposing any formal ‘end date’, but now is a suitable time to look for a new site based on WordPress.

What can you offer me?

When you have a new website you expect it to last you several years, but it is inevitable that changes in security, technology and standards that you can expect to develop a new site every few years.

We would not consider that any website should be thought of as having a useful lifespan in excess of five years, and the oldest site affected here is older than that. However we really value all of our clients.

We have previously sent all affected clients newsletters containing significant offers to incentivise an upgrade, and quite a number of clients have already taken us up on these offers.

Until 31st December 2024 we will offer all current clients still using cmsXtra or cartXtra the following deal:

      1. Current site originally quoted for on or after 1st Jan 2017 or later:

        We will build you new WordPress website (same size and functionality of existing site) for the CHEAPER OF:

        1. The price you paid us for your current site

          (Our prices have increased significantly sine then so a discount in real terms)

          or

        2. 20% off our current published prices  
            
      2.  Current site originally quoted for with a 2016 date:

        We will build you new WordPress website (same size and functionality of existing site) for the CHEAPER OF:

        1. 120% of the price you paid us for your current site*
          (our prices have gone up in the 8 years since then so a discount in real terms)

            
          or           

        2. 15% off our current published prices  
             
      3. Current site fist quoted for 31st December 2015 or earlier

        We will build you new WordPress website (same size and functionality of existing site) for the CHEAPER OF:

        1.  130% of the price you paid us for your current site*
          (our prices have gone up in the 9 years since then so a discount in real terms)

            
          or:

        2. 12.5% off our current published prices.

 

  • NOTE: We no longer offer monthly paid rental sites or ‘starter’ sites. If you have one of these then you will be offered the stated discounts off our current product range.  A price linked to the price you paid for your current site is not available as there is no directly comparable product available.

All offers subject to availability (based on our capacity) and subject to the deposit being received by us before 31st December 2024.
